In a world where technology advances faster than ever, traditional craftmanship can be hard to find – especially when it comes to true heavy-timber work. At Mt. Tabor Builders, Inc., we noticed our customers were searching for something more authentic; handcrafted mortise-and-tenon timber elements created with skill, precision, and artistry – not by machines, but by human hands.
That realization sparked a journey. By mid-2023, our team began exploring what it would take to revive old-world timber craftsmanship in-house. Just six months later, in January 2024, we officially opened the Mt. Tabor Timber Shop – our dedicated space for producing hand-cut heavy timbers using time-honored methods that have nearly disappeared in today’s CNC-driven market.
Craftsmanship Begins With Collaboration
Every project at the Mt. Tabor Timber Shop starts with a conversation. Our timber artisants take time to meet with each customer, listening to ideas, reviewing sketches, and understanding the vision for the space. From there, we transform those concepts into detailed designs that meet aesthetic goals, structural needs, and engineering standards.
Each mortise-and-tenon joint is then cut by hand with saws and chisels – never by CNC (computerized) machines. This meticulous approach ensures that every post, beam, rafter, and truss carries the unique, custom character that only handcrafted work can provide. It’s craftmanship built to stand the test of time.
A Wide Selection of Timbers for Any Style
Choosing the right wood is just as important as crafting the perfect frame. Our timber sales team guides customers through a variety of species and sizes, helping select the ideal materials for each project. Whether timbers serve as structural components or accent features, they bring warmth, strength and timeless beauty to any home.
Exposed beams and hancrafted frames create inviting spaces that become natural gathering spots – places where memories are made for generations.
Beyond the Home: Timbers for Outdoor Living
Heavy timber elements aren’t limited to interior spaces. They can enhance exterior design just as powerfully. From porch structures and roof gable accents to backyard pergolas and pavilions, our customer timbers bring durability and charm to outdoor living areas. With the right wood species, these features offer long-lasting beauty and strength in any environment.
